Why I Love Acting...

Meryl Streep

Acting is not about being someone different. It's about finding the similarity in what is apparently different and then finding myself in there.
Meryl Streep

Tom Hanks

As an actor I am always waiting for my luck to run out. As a young man, even if I was going to see a play or a film by myself, I didn't feel like I was alone. There was something that was unfolding up there that brought me into it. And I recognised that.
Tom Hanks

Denzel Washington

Acting is just a way of making a living, the family is life.
Denzel Washington

Cate Blanchett

It was only when I realized how actors have the power to move people that I decided to pursue acting as a career.
Cate Blanchett

Christian Bale

I find what I do for a living really funny. I mean, acting is kind of a hilarious thing for a grown man to call a job. It's got to do with putting yourself in other people's shoes and seeing how far you can come to truly understand them. I like the empathy that comes from acting.
Christian Bale

Joaquin Phoenix

Acting is real important to me. I love it, and it's something I care about.
Joaquin Phoenix

Leonardo DiCaprio

I just really love doing what I do. I know every career is fleeting and there will be time periods when I don't get the opportunities that I'm getting right now, so I am taking advantage of them.
Leonardo DiCaprio

Nicole Kidman

I love acting, but it's much more fun taking the kids to the zoo.
Nicole Kidman

Anthony Hopkins

I think acting is about empathy. It's about understanding others, understanding yourself, and being able to step into someone else's shoes.
Anthony Hopkins

Judi Dench

I love acting. It's a passion. I can't imagine doing anything else.
Judi Dench

Frances McDormand

I'm trained in the theater, and acting, for me, is about the imaginative life I create for myself, not about basing it on something real. I think that whatever I create becomes the reality for the audience.
Frances McDormand

Daniel Day-Lewis

The beauty of acting is that you can be anyone; you can experience anything.
Daniel Day-Lewis

Emma Thompson

I believe that actors and anyone in the arts should be outsiders, so that we can say whatever we want and hold a mirror up, as Shakespeare says, to what's really going on in the world. We shouldn't be within the pale of polite society. It's a disaster that actors have become so respectable.
Emma Thompson

Tilda Swinton

For a lot of actors, there's a sort of code of honor around playing something other than yourself, which I just don't have. I love feeling like I'm - I won't even say acting out, but performing in some deep seam of my consciousness or my family's consciousness or my past.
Tilda Swinton

Al Pacino

The biggest reward for me is still the work itself. I still enjoy acting. When you start too young, you think it's all about fame and money. But the great thing about acting is that it's a living.
Al Pacino

Viola Davis

I like the way I feel when I'm on set. I like the challenge of finding new ways to express emotion.
Viola Davis

Natalie Portman

I just always wanted to be an actress. I was always in awe of the ability to tell stories and inhabit different people.
Natalie Portman

Benedict Cumberbatch

I love the anonymity of being an actor. I like that you can be completely immersed in a character and disappear.
Benedict Cumberbatch

Brad Pitt

They hand me a script. I act. I'm here for entertainment. Basically, when you whittle everything away, I'm a grown man who puts on makeup.
Brad Pitt

Anthony Hopkins

I don't think you can become a great actor unless you know how to live.
Anthony Hopkins

Daniel Day-Lewis

Acting is a way of dealing with life. It's an exploration of who we are.
